Work Permit

Who Needs a Work Permit?

  • A worker who has been offered a position and is currently 14 or 15 years old. Students who are 16 + years old do not require a work permit.

  • Work permits cannot be obtained ahead of the student being offered a job.

  • If you have already been issued a permit for another job, students will NOT need to renew or obtain a different permit.

When can students obtain a work permit from the Issuing Officers?

  • School Opening Hours are: Monday - Thursday, 8am to 4pm

  • Enter CHS through the Canes Learning Center double doors. The front office is closed for construction at this time.

Who can help me with this? (Issuing Officers)

  • During the School year:

    • CHS- Ms. Shannon Boyer, WBL Coordinator (sboyer@cartersvilleschools.org),

    • Mrs. Julie McCary CHS Front office, (jmccary@cartersvilleschools.org)

    • Ms. Samantha Berry at the CCSS Board Office (sberry@cartersvilleschools.org)

  • During the Summer: Mrs. Julie McCary CHS Front office , Ms. Samantha Berry at the CCSS Board Office

What does the student need to bring?

  • Students should turn in the permit codes in person; the issuing officers have to indicate that they saw the student in person and bring a copy of their birth certificate or driver's permit.

Student Work Permit Instructions

  1. Students will need to start a permit online. Get A Youth Work Permit Online | Georgia Department of Labor

  2. Give the code that this generates to your employer.

  3. The employer will need to complete the permit online and give the student a code to bring to a work permit-issuing officer.

  4. You (the student) must come. Unfortunately, we cannot have a parent drop it off for us, as we have to certify with the Department of Labor that you came in person. (It might be a good idea to email an issuing officer before you plan to come to ensure someone will be able to assist you.)

  5. Bring a copy of your driver's permit OR a copy of your birth certificate with you. (This will be returned)

  6. We will TRY to process it on the spot, but please be advised that it might be a 24-hour turnaround before you can pick up the completed permit.
