FBLA Competitive Events

FBLA is proud to present a wide variety of competitive events, so that there is a competition for you, no matter what your strengths are. For those interested in competing in events, please see below for more information. The official FBLA guidelines can be found on the National FBLA website.

Why Compete?

FBLA events teach valuable skills used in every occupation and knowledge in an engaging way. If you are looking into a career in marketing, business, finance, or technology, competing is a great chance to get some real world experience. Competing also serves as a great addition to your college resume. In addition, events are a lot of fun and help you connect with other members!

If you’re still unsure, talk to FBLA members who have competed before or reach out to your officers who have tested in events.

Types of Competitive Events

Pre-Submission Events

Performance Events

Performance events can vary from role play scenarios, presentations, or job interviews. These events are graded by an appointed judge/judges. At the regional and FLC level these events are closed to spectators, but in the final State rounds some (mainly presentations) are open to an audience. These events are often the most fun for competitors who are willing to put themselves out there.

Objective Testing Events

One type of competition FBLA has are the testing events, and they are just like they sound. A competitor will sign up for a test of their choosing. Generally, these are 100 questions long and timed. A competitor's score and time will be pitted against scores across the state, and depending on the event, they earn the chance to be recognized on either the region and/or state levels.

Compete at Conferences

National Leadership Conference (NLC)

This trip is the pinnacle of the FBLA experience! NLC is held in different locations across the country each year, and in 2026 it will be in San Antonio, Texas! Every year, over 700 skilled members from around the world are recognized on stage for placing in the top 10 of their events. Will it be you this year?

To compete at Nationals, you must place high enough at State, but even if you don’t qualify, you can still attend for the experience. Attendees get the opportunity to explore San Antonio and connect with students from across the globe. Winners at NLC also receive cash prizes!

State Leadership Conference (SLC)

The trip that gets you hooked, the State conference is the highlight of the year for many of our members. With the widest array of events, members come from all across the state to Atlanta’s Hyatt Regency Center, a beautiful hotel - conference center combo connected to the Peachtree Center Mall. There are two types of events here: Region Qualified, and Straight to State. Region Qualified events require a member to have placed well enough at RLC to compete, but don’t worry if you didn’t go to RLC or didn’t place well. Straight to state events allow anyone to compete in them. At this conference members can compete in two events of their choosing.

Region Leadership Conference (RLC)

Fall Leadership Conference (FLC)

The first chance to compete is in the exciting city of Athens! There are seven competitions available at this conference, all of which are presentation events. The best part of competing here is the low risk these events provide. It gives both new and old competitors a chance to try new events and get a feel for how FBLA works! During this trip members may choose up to one event to compete in, but it is optional since there are plenty of other things to do on the trip. It is a great opportunity to adjust to FBLA and build your confidence!
